With retention up and recruiting down, here’s how the Army plans to add 7,500 more soldiers to the ranks

Last year marked a turning point for the Army.

After several years of drawing down, the service got approval to give the active component a 26,000-person infusion, bringing the total force back to just over 1 million.

That was the plan, at least.
