Gulf Arab allies jubilant at U.S. withdrawal from Iran deal
Jerusalem Post, May 8, 2018

RIYADH - Saudi Arabia and its Gulf Arab allies welcomed President Donald Trump's decision to withdraw the United States from a nuclear agreement with Iran after years of warning that it gave their arch-rival cover to expand its regional influence.

The quick embrace of Trump's announcement on Tuesday reflects a sense of vindication by Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, which have pushed Washington to take seriously Tehran's ballistic missile programme and support for militant groups - security threats they regard as existential.

Ordinary Saudis rejoiced at the announcement, tweeting photos of Trump and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman with comments like "We prevailed", "Game over", and "Action, not words".

"No deal could ever be struck with the devil, and Saudi Arabia fully supports President Trump's decision ... Together we prevail," one tweet read.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia fully supports the measures taken by @POTUS with regards to the JCPOA. we always had reservations with regards to sunset clauses, ballistic missiles program, and Iran’s support for terrorism in the region.

It is a big deal for UAE to support this as they are the biggest trading partners with Iran.

The United Arab Emirates and China are now Iran's main trade partners, accounting for 23,6% and 22,3% of Iran's trade respectively. The EU only ranks as the fifth trade partner of Iran, accounting for 6,0% of Iran's trade. The EU used to be the first trading partner of Iran before the current sanctions regime.
