I'm not willing to pass judgement on anyone being subjected to torture in a POW camp. I know what Denton did, and it was highly commendable. However, Denton also got an opportunity that others did not.
For McCain, I did not endure what he did, nor was I faced with the same decisions he was faced with. However, there is a degree of humility that goes along with being a hero. One of my favorite John F. Kennedy clips shows him being asked by some reporter, "How does it feel to be a hero?" JFK responded, "I don't think of myself as a hero. I got my boat sunk."
I never saw humility from McCain. McCain kept his mouth shut smiling as others hoisted him atop the hero pedestal to serve their political purposes. But I do know this with absolute certainty about McCain - he is a collaborator. He has worked hand in hand with the Democrats for almost two decades. McCain offered himself as the face of the victim card the Gore campaign used against Bush in 2000. And he used that same victim card to win the nomination in 2008, only to throw the election away to the guy he probably voted for.
I appreciate his service. I honor his sacrifice to his country. But that does not excuse his collaboration with the worst enemy this country has ever faced in its 231 year history - the Democrat Party.
