Federal Judge Accuses Mueller Team of 'Lying' About Manafort Case

In a hearing on Friday in Alexandria, Va., about Special Counsel Robert Mueller's charges against former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, the judge accused Mueller's legal team of "lying" about their investigation and of seeking solely to nab President Trump through "impeachment or whatever."

"You don't really care about Mr. Manafort," Judge T.S. Ellis III told Mueller's legal team in the courtroom, as reported by Fox News.com. [1] "You really care about what information Mr. Manafort can give you to lead you to Mr. Trump and an impeachment, or whatever."

I did not realize until I read the full transcript of Friday’s court hearing how badly it went for the Mueller team, which was reduced to arguing: yeah, we violated the regulations governing special counsels but those regs are not enforceable in court.

Mueller’s team may be right that the court can’t toss the Manafort indictment based on violation of the special counsel regulations, but we are in debt to the judge for bringing such a violation to light.

If #Mueller acted outside his authorization, then that is an abuse of the grand jury, and dismissal is the only appropriate remedy. A grand jury cannot indict based on the recommendation of a prosecutor who didn't have authorization to ask them for that indictment.
