McCain says he regrets picking Palin as running mate

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said he regrets choosing former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin (R) to be his running mate during the 2008 presidential campaign.

The New York Times reported on Saturday that McCain, while still defending Palin’s performance, said in his upcoming book “The Restless Wave” that he wishes he had instead selected former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-Conn.)

His advisers reportedly had warned against choosing Lieberman, who was once a Democrat, stating that Lieberman’s support of abortion rights could divide Republicans.

It was sound advice that I could reason for myself,” he writes. “But my gut told me to ignore it and I wish I had.”

In a new HBO documentary, McCain goes on to say that not choosing Lieberman was “another mistake" that he made in his political career.

The local talk radio guys, at least a few I remember, really didn't like that choice at all, I can remember hearing that all week.  I think there is proper speculation on this. I like her plenty but perhaps she was not ready.

This is true.  Dozens of folks I was campaigning with at the time were voting for Palin first, McCain if they had to for her to win.

Absolutely! Every time she made a speech or appearance,his poll numbers jumped until he called a press conference to slap her down. His job was to lose,not win,and despite HIM,SHE kept them in the race.

I remember how the media put words in a very sick Lee Atwater's mouth towards the end, so I'll wait until McCain's book comes out. But this does sound like him.

He was basically out of the primaries and then seemingly overnight he took the lead and the other GOP candidates  practically dropped out.   He started strong and his selection of Palin got him a lot of votes.  Then he started underperforming, stopping his campaign to meet with Bush on the economic issues and that ginormous spending bill.  Think it was called TARP.

I believe he was selected by the deep state globalists to run and lose against Obama.  Just like Obama was selected to be President.

McCain is a sell out.  Under his leadership and influence the GOP has been ineffective and has lost its conservative focus.  Along with Mitch and the other sellouts they have led this country down the path of decline.    He's pushed us towards numerous needless military conflicts which have claimed thousands of lives of our young people.  America will be a better and stronger place when he is gone.
