New research shows that among older voters, women are more right wing than men, but in younger cohorts, women are more to the left.

We already know that younger people are often more likely to vote for left-wing parties than their older peers, but it seems this trend is particularly pronounced among women. Younger women are the most left wing in their voting habits and older women the most right wing when we compare voters by age and gender. This is the case across Western European countries and in Canada.

Sometimes studies can be skewed by something like "How do young women feel about "reproductive rights" (or however you want to phrase it, "abortion", etc.)".  You see that per the attitudes of even a number of Republican women.

About fourteen years ago, right before the 2004 prez election, I separately asked a number of my female family members, friends, and wife who they were voting for and why. 
They all responded that they were voting for Kerry, because they were concerned that a teen age girl might not be able to get an abortion. Not national defense, not the economy, not illegal immigration, not even "global warming"or any other big issue.
My wife has since changed her political affiliation (in large part to my ranting), but it lays bare the dirty, little secret about why many young women vote the way they do.
A  number of people insist that abortion is down the list of why many females vote for Dems, but I don't believe it.
I strongly suspect that abortion "rights" is still the no. one issue for many female Dem voters.   One way to find out is to have a Dem prez candidate come out against abortion on demand and a Pubbie candidate who declares him or herself pro-choice.
That won't happen...no pro-life pol has a future in the modern Dem Party.  But I think I know what the results would be....many formerly Dem-voting females would now find a home in the Republican Party. That's how important I believe abortion "rights" are to many females.

Women can be right-brained without allowing their emotions to guide their lives and decisions.  I'm definitely a hot-head, definitely much more emotional in nature than my husband.  But I can think, as well, so I don't let emotions rule me and dictate my vote, or other important decisions.

 This is it in a nutshell. Women tend to be nurturers by nature And the idea of using government to “take care of people” is very appealing.  Especially to younger women

The problem with that is you’re dealing with the law  of economics and math.   And a nurturing instinct doesn’t overcome either one

Younger people in general, have been taught to rely on government, not think too much and go with the herd.  Men, on average, seem to be slightly less susceptible to believing all of that, but only slightly.

If you're like me, and you had a bad experience in public school, you learn to distrust the government at a young age. Given our education system these days and how it's known to favor girls, it's no wonder they are less wary of government help than boys.

Yes, I had a number of bad experiences in public school, and certainly did not get any advantages from being a girl.  But, I'm a generation older than you.
