18 House Republicans nominate Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

A group of 18 House Republicans has formally nominated President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

In a letter sent on Wednesday to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the lawmakers tapped Trump for the highly coveted prize for his efforts to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula and end the 68-year-old war between the North and the South.

"Since taking office, President Trump has worked tirelessly to apply maximum pressure on North Korea to end its illicit weapons program and bring peace to the region," the letter, led by Rep. Luke Messer (R-Ind.), reads.

"His Administration successfully united the international community, including China, to impose one of the most successful international sanctions regimes in history."

Official nominations for regular Nobel Prizes can be made only by qualified nominators (for example, former Nobel Laureates).  I don't know about Norway's Nobel Peace Prize, however.  (They might say, "No, you have to get Obama to nominate Trump.)

You’re right, of course. But, I suspect his ego wouldn’t let him do it... I wouldn’t blame him if he were named and accepted it. After all, there have also been many deserving winners, too.

I think Trump should provisionally accept such an award as an opportunity to speak out loudly and clearly against the Peace Prize farce before he donates the prize to some deserving charity.  (Yeah, that would be tacky, but Trump does tacky very, very well.  It would be really cool if his speech could be timed to coincide with the arrest of Obama.)

I thought it was ridiculous for Obama to get the Peace Prize just for talking about peace.

Trump has done more than Obama to receive this already, but this is still in the preliminary stages.

I hope he gets the thing, but only because there will be tangible results, not because Obama got one, too.
