House chaplain forced out by Ryan
By Melanie Zanona and Mike Lillis - 04/26/18 02:16 PM EDT

House Chaplain Patrick Conroy’s sudden resignation has sparked a furor on Capitol Hill, with sources in both parties saying he was pushed out by Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).

Conroy’s own resignation announcement stated that it was done at Ryan’s request.

“As you have requested, I hereby offer my resignation as the 60th Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives,” the April 15 letter to Ryan, obtained by The Hill, states.

Through his office, Conroy, who has served as chaplain since 2011, declined to comment on Thursday. His resignation is effective May 24.

This seems out of the ordinary.

Has anyone heard of a speaker asking for a house chaplain to resign before?

The only 2 things that come to my mind are that he was too political, which, while human, I would hope chaplain should stay above that.
The other being legal - corruption fraud, bribery, scandal, etc.

Quote
Speaker Paul Ryan forced out the Jesuit priest who had served as House chaplain since 2011 because he said in a prayer during deliberations on tax cuts that lawmakers should be “fair to all Americans,” a new report said Thursday.

The Rev. Patrick Conroy’s letter of resignation, a copy of which was obtained by The Hill, said he was stepping down because of a request from the Wisconsin Republican, who is also a Catholic.

“As you have requested, I hereby offer my resignation as the 60th Chaplain of the United States House of Representatives,” the April 15 letter to Ryan said.

Four sources — two from each party — told the website that Conroy was told he had to retire or he would be canned.

Some of the sources said Ryan thought Conroy favored Democrats in the House, and cited the prayer and the priest’s invitation to a Muslim to offer a prayer before the chambers as the reasons behind the chaplain’s demise.

Democrats believe that Ryan pushed Conroy out “because Republicans thought he was aligned with Democrats,” according to a senior Democratic aide familiar with the discussion.

The Jesuit "Brother" could very well be a die hard lib.  It is in their DNA.

I'm gonna keep my powder dry on this till more comes out.  For Now, Ryan gets a pass.

He’s a Jesuit, so I’ll refrain from criticism until all info comes to light. Like a Franciscan monk told me: I can teach you how to live, but a Jesuit can teach you how to live well.

Wow.  There must be more to it than that 'true statement' attributed to him.  I'm sure more will come out but right now I'm not that happy about it.

So do Jesuits, at least that’s what I observed during college.

Ryan is still a sell out no matter if this chaplain deserves it.

So I am not the only one who thinks that time spent reading the article is 5 minutes of my life I'll never get back?  The kind of claptrap we've come to know and love from Paul Ryan.

Yes, he does.  I consider it a little weird to cater to a Muslim.  I don't like it.  A lot of liberals do it to prove how tolerant they are.  My own (Episcopal) Priest in Irving did it.

So, yeah, Ryan, if this is indicative of the guy's mindset, well, bye it is.

According to Dana Loesch earlier today, the chaplain used a sermon as an occasion to monologue about tax cuts.  That's all I know.

If true, then yes, I'm glad he's gone.  A sermon isn't the place for that.

I just saw on Yahoo that it is the democrats who are the most ticked off about this.  So, maybe ....
