Ryan eyes ban of ICE agents from state court detainers

LOWELL -- Marian Ryan is one of two district attorneys to lend their support to a legal action asking the Supreme Judicial Court to ban federal immigration agents from detaining people in state courthouses.

Ryan, the Middlesex DA, recently sent a letter supporting the request to the SJC, citing the large number of immigrants in Middlesex County, and the damage that could be done to public safety if undocumented immigrants have reason to fear going to court to serve as witnesses.

This is in Lowell, Massachusetts.

The administration and the ICE had better act on this issue quickly, to prevent more lil' rebels like Marian Ryan from gaining traction.

I don't see how any courthouse at any level of state government in any state could legally bar agents of the federal government from entering such premises.

And if they try, the feds should FORCE themselves in, with weapons drawn if necessary.

If the locals have the firepower to back 'em off under such circumstances -- well, so be it.
