Rand Paul flips, will support Mike Pompeo for secretary of state

Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., said Monday he will vote in favor of Mike Pompeo to serve as Secretary of State, assuring that Pompeo will win committee approval late Monday afternoon

In a last minute announcement, Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., flipped from a planned “no” to a “yes” after meeting with Pompeo and talking to President Trump about Paul’s objections to the Iraq war and maintaining a U.S. military presense in Afghanistan.

“Having received assurances from President Trump and Director Pompeo that he agrees with the President on these important issues, I have decided to support his nomination to be our next Secretary of State," he said on Twitter.

Levin just went over Pompeo’s background. Outstanding creds! So, naturally democrat senators stand together in opposing his nomination because Trump, of course. Glad Paul came around, anyway.

Exactly right.  To think that Pompeo is somehow unqualified to serve as Secretary of State is pure nonsense IMO.  The guy graduated first in his class at West Point went to law school at Harvard where he was editor of law review.  He worked as an attorney then was in the US House of Representatives where he served on the Intel Committee before serving as CIA Director.  Definitely qualified IMO so a no vote is really about partisan politics.
