Why and how does a kid supposedly from high school, need a full year gap to work on 'midterms' when he is not in college yet?

"Midterms" for what classes pray tell?

And when did he begin his college classes that he needs a full year to work on these mystical 'mid terms'?

tuition, live on campus, cost are High.  I was not aware one could be accepted at UCI for the 2018-19 year,
and expect to  attend in the 2019-20 year?  (not likely).

Hogg is NOT a "good color" for a free ticket to ride,though. I guess he could show them his tiny little fists and tell them he is a tranny,and get free tuition then. Hell,they might even pay him to just attend rallies wearing the school logo on a sweat shirt.
