Poland’s Holocaust law wasn’t intended to stifle testimonies about the crimes of World War II, which is a tough subject for Poles, President Andrzej Duda said after meeting his Israeli counterpart at the site of the Auschwitz Nazi concentration camp.

Taking part in a “March of the Living” rally that commemorates the victims of Nazi genocide with Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, Duda sought to soothe frayed nerves after Poland ignited international outrage over the legislation this year. The law makes it illegal to suggest Poles and their nation were complicit in the Holocaust, and it has drawn condemnation from the U.S. and Israel.

“There’s obviously great controversy surrounding the law,” Duda said, after a prolonged meeting with Rivlin. “But I want to stress very firmly that it has never been our intention to block Holocaust testimonies. As president I want to defend the historic truth, including when it’s difficult for Poles.”

Lots of blame to go around, if one blames the Ukrainians, many of whom fought in the Red Army and the Nazis carried out massacres of Ukrainian citizens as well and one blames the Croats, make room for the Slovaks, Hungarians, even the debate on this bill seems to have some questioning if Poles did wrong as well.

Of course there were some individual Poles that did wrong.   But there were also plenty of Jewish Kapos that did wrong as well.

War brings out the best in some people, and the worst in others.  Has nothing to do with borders or culture, it's the human condition.

If we are going by numbers of wrongs or perceived wrongs, I'm sure many more Poles died by the Russians than Ukrainians, also, that Eastern Ukraine area has had studies and polls done, the people did not want to be a part of Russia, the people were most often bilingual, speaking Urkrainian and Russian.
