Nunes reveals plan to ‘hold in contempt’ and to impeach’ Wray and Rosenstein if subpoened documents are not produced today
By Thomas Lifson

“We are at a boiling point,” House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes told Laura Ingraham last night on Fox News.  He went on to reveal A plan to hold FBI Director William Wray and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein if a two-page document they have been seeking since August last year is not produced today.

News of the plan to hold in contempt and impeach two senior officials was first revealed in tweet by Washington Post writer Robert Costa:

House Intel Chair Devin Nunes privately told several colleagues today that it's time for House GOP to hold Rosenstein and Wray in contempt of Congress, should they refuse to hand over requested docs, according to two people familiar with the discussions...

That would be one way to get rid of a couple of swamp creatures without any direct involvement by the POTUS....

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.

Exactly. Congress are a bunch of frightened eunuchs. What difference does it make to charge and convict someone (Holder) if you then refuse to enforce the verdict? Congress are toothless weasels. They won't do a damn thing to anyone.

Whenever I see the words "HOLD IN CONTEMPT" from a Congressman or Senator,  I just laugh.

In practice, this is nothing but an exercise in saying -- "You've been a a bad boy/girl". NOTHING MORE.

Lois Lerner, who has been held in contempt, still has her fat pension. Eric Holder is still loose, and plying his trade in Kalifornia.

Has anybody been jailed when held in "Contempt of Congress"? ( Wake me up when it happens ).

An actual move to impeach the two officials would trigger protests that it was aimed at removing the person who appointed and is supervising Robert Mueller’s investigation. If Rosenstein were removed, it would open the door to a newly-appointed official to rein-in the drift far afield from Russia collusion that has seen Mueller spending taxpayer money investigation an affair that took place many years before Trump even declared his candidacy, among other excursions.

But the more of a fuss that would be made over impeachment, the more attention would be focused on the stonewalling of documents to which the House committees are entitled.

Hmmm... can the Congress impeach an appointed member of the Executive Branch (other than the president or vice-president)? Just wondering.

In any case, the threat of impeachment is kabuki theater.
It would take a 2/3 vote of the Senate to remove the impeachee from office, and that ain't gonna happen.

Yes.  William W. Belknap, President Grant's United States Secretary of War, was impeached.  Making the event more strange he was impeached after he resigned, as an attempt to avoid the impeachment (same day).

This move would not only remove a burr in the presidents saddle but have the added advantage of originating in Congress.

I wonder how the establishment GOP types will try to stop it.

Collins, Graham, or Murkowski, might rally to that flag....like they so often do on other issues.

McCain is dead.
Or he is in a coma or otherwise incapacitated. No way he will ever see D.C. again in this lifetime. He's done.

I recall seeing an article somewhere that the reason McCain hasn't resigned yet is that if he did so now, Arizona law would call for a special election to replace him.

BUT...

...If he hangs on till a date in the future (can't recall if it was May 1, or perhaps May 31), and resigns afterwards, the governor of Arizona can APPOINT a successor who will then remain in office until 2020.

And I believe the idea for doing this instead is that McCain will resign on the condition that his wife be appointed to fill the vacancy. Or perhaps former senator John Kyl...?

Cindy McCain will not be appointed to his seat (not that airhead Meghan, either), and I doubt very much Kyl wants it.  But it's true there is a cutoff date whereby Ducey can appoint a replacement that will last until 2020.  Ducey is a big fan of Trump, so he wants a Trumper in there.  It's up to him, and I really doubt he's commit political suicide by naming Cindy McCain.  People hate her.
