Author's name is Griswold?  Got to be related to another who knows a thing or two about vehicular action.

@Smokin Joe

It also kept the public from finding out if Mary Joe may have been pregnant.

Causen GAWD wanted Teddy protected,of course. I have seen recorded interviews of Kennedy voters in the 60's where people,mostly old women,were saying they would vote for ANY Kennedy because they were all so handsome,because they were good Catholics,and because that was what God wanted."

That was my thought, too, because she would have been highly unlikely to agree to an abortion and another little bastard Kennedy running around would have been a real scandal and the end of his political career.

Not that this shouldn't have been.

Yep. Billy Jeff just roughed them up a bit...

@Smokin Joe

Yeah,but since Old Man Joe was almost certainly Bubba's father,he was still holding true to the family tradition of abusing females.

@Sanguine

And THAT is saying something when you consider the news at that time NEVER wrote anything negative about a Kennedy.

I get the feeling that they didn't like Teddy.  At least until he was the last one left.

I think young Joe was supposed to be the golden child, but he got killed in the War, iirc. That left Jack, who was promoted for his service. Bobby was an up-and-comer, at least until Sirhan Sirhan eliminated him. That left Teddy...

I seem to recall reading that even Papa Joe thought Teddy was a loser, but when he was the only one left, what else was there?

Daughters.   Oh wait.  Not for Joe.  Son's only.

Nobody ever claimed it was fun to be "the stupid Kennedy". There are just some titles you don't really want.

@Smokin Joe

Who says no Arabs ever did anything beneficial to America?

I still contend there should be statutes of Sirhan Sirhan raised in public parks all over America. We,as a nation,were MUCH more naive back then,and that communist SOB would have been elected and turned America into a Communist Nation.

His convictions were so solid he was the chief counsel for  Joe McCarthy and the House Un-American Activities Committee until his daddy decided they needed to enslave the blacks again to maintain  permanent power and access to the Treasury. No big shift for his pop,since he was caught giving (selling?) US war plans to the Nazi's via the IRA when he was the US Ambassador to The Court of St.James during WW-2. Even then,Churchill had to threaten to make it public to get Comrade Roosevelt to call  him home and replace him.

Scum-sucking backstabbing bastards,every single one of them,including that punk JFK.

@Wingnut

Daughters were to married into wealthy families,or families with powerful political connections.

Daughters unsuitable for pimping were to be given lobotomies.

I read up on it a bit back when, and that is what I got, too. Oddly, (since she was a Catholic), Mary Jo's remains were cremated, iirc, which wasn't in line with church doctrine, but it sure prevented exhumation and any further post mortem examination.
@Smokin Joe

She was not cremated unless they dug her up and did it.  Bob's father owned a funeral home in Penn., where she was buried, and he helped bury the body that day.  I'll send you a PM about that day.

i always wondered if she was cremated to keep the pregnancy covered up. Imagine another bastard Kennedy running around, and you have motive enough for a homicide, and a Catholic girl (even a 'bad' one) wouldn't get an abortion... All speculation, of course, but it fits the philandering ways of the Kennedy tribe. No wonder the old man had a stroke...

What gets me is how the parents were paid off.  No amount of money OR threats would have made me back off of that ahole.  I don't get how parents could just take the payoff and stay silent.

I don't doubt that the Kennedy's could have smeared their little girl's name post mortem to no end, too. That likely was the stick behind any carrot offered.

Please enlighten me. Seriously. I do recall something about no autopsy being done, but maybe that is in error, too.

Of course Michael Moore's deragatory portrayal of W Bush was hard hitting, high quality documentary.

Kopechne's funeral was held on July 22, 1969, at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth, Pennsylvania, and she was buried in the parish cemetery there.

Us Fish Eaters weren't the cremating kind back in 69.  That came later.

Yes, Wikipedia says (so it has to be true):

Quote
Kennedy failed to report the incident to the authorities until the car and Kopechne's body were discovered the next morning.[12] Kopechne's parents said that they learned of their daughter's death from Kennedy himself,[2] before he informed authorities of his involvement.[9] They learned Kennedy had been the driver from wire press releases some time later.[9]

A private funeral for Kopechne was held at St. Vincent's Roman Catholic Church in Plymouth, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1969.[19][20] The service was attended by Kennedy, his wife Joan, his sister-in-law Ethel, and hundreds of onlookers.[19] Kopechne was buried in St. Vincent's Cemetery in Larksville, Pennsylvania,[1] in the parish cemetery on the side of Larksville Mountain.[4] She was among the fifth generation of her family interred in that cemetery.[4]
Aftermath

A week after the incident, Kennedy pleaded guilty to leaving the scene of an accident after causing injury. He received a two-month suspended sentence.[12] On a national television broadcast that night, Kennedy said that he had not been driving "under the influence of liquor" nor had he ever had a "private relationship" with Kopechne.[21] Massachusetts officials pressed for weeks to have Kopechne's body exhumed for an autopsy, but in December 1969 a Pennsylvania judge sided with the parents' request not to disturb her burial site.[1]

I copied that first paragraph just to show what an upstanding guy Teddy was.

@Smokin Joe

I'm on a small computer in the kitchen.  Will be back in the library/TV room shortly where my serious computer is, and will send you the PM about that.

I have four computers so I have one for every occasion, plus one external hard drive and a thumb drive backing up my writing so nothing goes away.  Then, I have a pad.  One computer and the pad goes on long trips we make.  Will be driving to Ohio and Ithaca, New York, at the end of May.

She is buried at "St. Vincent's Cemetery in Larksville, Pennsylvania,[1] in the parish cemetery on the side of Larksville Mountain."

I have been there as some of Bob's family is buried there.
