Better Technology Isn’t The Solution To Ecological Collapse
We cannot innovate our way out of planetary disaster. We need to ditch our addiction to GDP growth

By Jason Hickel5 minute Read

It’s hard to ignore the headlines these days, with all their warnings about ecological breakdown. Last year brought troubling news on everything from plastic pollution to soil depletion to the collapse of insect populations. These crises are worsening as our demands on the Earth intensify. Right now, virtually every government in the world is committed to pursuing economic growth: ever-expanding levels of extraction and consumption year on year.

And the more we grow, the more we eat away at the web of life on which we all depend.

The concept that technology is set for production is silly.

Wheat Yields

Corn Yields

Cotton Yields

Rice Yields

Sorghum Yields

Soybean Yields

Well isn't this why the green weenies have have been working do hard to drive us back to pre technology time? Where we had black out days due to coal and oil heating, wood and coal burning transportation, horse and buggy roads full of equine excrement? Of course they only want it for the common folk not the important people like actors, environdementialists, politicians and rich folk.
