Why Russia and China Should Fear the Navy's New F-35C Stealth Fighter
Dave Majumdar [2]
The United States Navy’s two Lockheed Martin F-35C Joint Strike Fighter fleet replenishment squadrons (FRS) have completed their first operational carrier qualifications onboard USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72). Strike fighter squadrons VFA-125 and VFA-101 flew day and night qualifications sorties and made 140 traps onboard the massive nuclear-powered carrier in anticipation of F-35C operational testing phase later this year.
“It's really neat to see this aircraft out there with other aircraft,†Rear Adm. Dale Horan, director of the U.S. Navy F-35C Fleet Integration Office, said. “We haven't done that before. Previously, all the CQ [carrier qualification] evolutions have just been F-35s."
