Trump on board with omnibus bill after meeting with Paul Ryan and Mitch McConnell
by Sarah Westwood
 | March 21, 2018 03:01 PM

President Trump met with GOP congressional leaders on Wednesday as lawmakers prepare to unveil their omnibus spending bill Wednesday evening and appears to be on board.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., spoke to Trump amid reports the president had balked at the relatively small amount of money lawmakers set aside in the bill for construction of Trump's border wall.

While the White House requested $25 billion for the border wall, lawmakers have reportedly appropriated just $1.6 billion for the wall.

But if he only gets $1.whateverB, and then the Congress changes hands, he'll never get the rest of that funding.  It'll be interesting to see how it plays out.

Bingo!  He's not getting his border well; it is not in budget and the bill in the past stipulated that no $$ would be included for FUTURE funding of the wall.  The most recent monies allocated were for repair of the EXISTING wall.  Not for any additional wall.

You are absolutely correct.  If we lose the mid terms (which is a possibility) there is a very real and likely possibility that the wall will never be built.  Trump and the GOPe can then blame the DEMS; which brings us back to the usual blame game that our incompetent Congress plays.

Trump's campaign promise of building the walln was to tap into disgruntled GOP voters.  He merely saw a void and a way to run for the presidency and he ran with it.  His campaign promise was made when he was clueless about how Congress operated and I don't think he fullyr ealized that he couldn't just arbitrarily build a wall without Congressional approval (yes I believe he was that naive.) He promised a wall, he promised full repeal of Bammycare and we have neither.  Business as usual in D.C.

Great question.  If so, another kick in the teeth to Trump supporters and a nail in the coffin of those running in 2018.

I don't think there's any additional health insurance funding.

I also just realized, this might end in September, so they'll have to argue again up to the midterms?

Reagan said he was happy with getting 80% of what he wanted.  At 1.3 Trillion we should all be getting 200%-300% of what we want.  Happy days.

I'm praying for Trump.  Praying that he resigns.

Of course not.  The $1.6B is for border security, but the actual wall money won't be in the budget, since Mexico is paying for it.
I disagree.  Circle gets the square.

I imagine Medicaid Expansion has gotten more expensive. But I think there is a big military upgrade. Too many rockets flying around.

This spending bill does not fund the wall. So I'd say yes Trump is giving up the wall. As a long
time supporter of Trump I am disgusted. If any of my reps in DC vote for this obscene bill I will
not vote for them. I've already written them so they know I am watching.

Trump better veto this bill.

Yes, another broken promise by the POS GOPers in Congress. The GOP is going to get killed in 2018
they have screwed their base one to many times.

Hate to tell you, but they don't care if you're watching.  They don't care about you or anyone else at all.

Perhaps but my House rep voted against it and so will Ted Cruz, now John Corlyn I will vote against
when he runs for reelection.

I read the details of the money for the wall - it's not for a new wall, it's for the walls already there - re-doing them.

Exactly.

Then he can blame Congress and not have to take any responsibility for flubbing the whole thing.
