And how does forcing Americans to pay 10% more for Chinese products help the American consumer who has now lost the opportunity to purchase something else (or save) with that extra 10%.

Which brings us once again to the same question that has yet to be answered.  How does raising taxes promote economic growth?

The attraction is it looks like a shortcut around being competitive. Having a hard time competing just block the competitor via government... Don't fix the underlying issues that make you less competitive... Like taxes, regulation and cost of energy... Fixing it requires adapting to change and innovation verses putting up barriers which are simple to do.

Socialism is much the same. It is a shortcut to get things you didn't earn. Other people have stuff, they should share by force of government so it is "fair".

Both can work for awhile until economic reality catches up and then there is hell to pay. A hell that cannot be escaped.

Well said @DB!  And very true!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."

Pretty sure, eh?  You might want to double-check your source on that.  Because there have been zero changes made on either personal or corporate income earned overseas since Trump took office.

Not only that, but since Trump and the Trumplican "tax break" - almost all tax-write-offs for independent contractors have been eliminated.  Since my wife is a travel nurse - all her normal tax write-offs for uniforms, housing, mandated schooling, training, etc., have been eliminated at 100%.

So, this 'tax break' was not all that great for some of us.

There were trade offs and some do not get to enjoy more of their own money.
Fart for freedom, fart for liberty and fart proudly.  - Benjamin Franklin

...Obsta principiis—Nip the shoots of arbitrary power in the bud, is the only maxim which can ever preserve the liberties of any people. When the people give way, their deceivers, betrayers and destroyers press upon them so fast that there is no resisting afterwards. The nature of the encroachment upon [the] American constitution is such, as to grow every day more and more encroaching. Like a cancer, it eats faster and faster every hour." - John Adams, February 6, 1775
