 Russia has tested an array of new strategic nuclear weapons that can't be intercepted, President Vladimir Putin announced Thursday, marking a technological breakthrough that would dramatically increase Russia's military capability and boost the Kremlin's global position.

Speaking in a state-of-the-nation speech, Putin said the weapons include a nuclear-powered cruise missile, a nuclear-powered underwater drone and new hypersonic missile. He said the creation of the new weapons has made NATO's U.S.-led missile defense "useless," and means an effective end to what he described as Western efforts to stymie Russia's development.

"I want to tell all those who have fueled the arms race over the last 15 years, sought to win unilateral advantages over Russia, introduced unlawful sanctions aimed to contain our country's development: all what you wanted to impede with your policies have already happened," he said. "You have failed to contain Russia."

I'd be worried, but the latest wonder weapons from Russia are a joke.  The SU-57 is not a true 5th Generation aircraft.  Their Armata tank couldn't make it through a parade without breaking down.  We've seen what a farce their aircraft carrier was during its trip to Syria.

He really wants to be relevant again.  Some think he wants to reassemble the Soviet Union.  IMO, he wants the 19th Century Russian Empire with great influence over areas without the direct responsibility.

They see our growing influence in Eastern Europe as a threat to that sphere.

Prigozhin is known to have close ties with Putin, and it is unlikely that he works without the permission of Russia’s most powerful man.

There is a story that said this morning, some contest was held at what to call their new weapons and the winning entry was "Adios America";  There's a lot of irritating and agitating information, articles and stories on all of this. Putin is talking more of the way, that Kim Jong-Un talks or even some of Iran's leaders, my concern is when we get all of these people ganging up on us.

Russian President Vladimir Putin's surprise dissertation on Russia's new strategic weaponry, attached to Thursday's state of the nation address, mixed some well-known technological advances with a few genuine revelations. But the technical specifics are perhaps less important than the message Putin sent to the U.S.: The cost of a conventional war remains far too high.

Putin's big point was that Russian nukes have myriad ways to penetrate U.S. missile shields, and will have many more before too long. The nuclear-capable hardware the Russian leader advertised with computer-generated videos can be ranged from the well-known and combat-ready to the iffy.

Yes, they tried to advance on one of our positions there and got a beat down.  There have been other incidents where Russian mercenaries have supported operations and been caught in coalition air strikes.
