Except for @massadvj , no substantive remarks. Speaking as a man without a party I hope Kasich is right. Neither party has the moral foundation to lead and neither party has a cohesive ideology to frame a moral foundation. I can't support either.
I hope Kasich is right too. While I'm not yet a man without a party, it is obvious that the GOP is internally split and the several flavors of conservatives spit their hate at each other more than they do at the Dems. And the neither the GOP nor the Dems even try to appeal to those of us who are conservative on economic issues and moderate on social issues. The two parties are sick because they are beholden to their extremes and obsessed with tribalism, and those of us who aren't extremists or fans of identity politics feel we deserve a voice as well.
I don't know whether Kasich is the man to do it, but the country, in 2020, ought to be ripe for a third party candidate for President who can appeal to Dems who aren't socialists, and Republicans who aren't know-nothing nativists. I suspect there are at least a few of each still left.
