A lawyer who brought false claims against British soldiers who fought in Iraq has had his bankruptcy extended by five years after he tried to avoid paying creditors by transferring almost £500,000 of assets to his family.

Phil Shiner, 61, was struck off as a solicitor last year after he was found guilty of professional misconduct for drumming up dishonest claims of torture, abuse and murder against hundreds of Iraq war veterans. His now defunct law firm, Public Interest Lawyers, brought the majority of more than 3,000 abuse claims to the government’s Iraq Historic Allegations Team.

The lawyer and he appears to be British (not Iraq lawyer) per above, drummed up false claims against British soldiers of torture. Not much else on this story and the Times may have a paywall. Good to know about tales like this though.
