LONDON, Feb 26 (Reuters) - The death of heavyweight Scott Westgarth was described as a disaster by British Boxing chief Robert Smith on Monday although he said it was impossible to make the sport 100 percent safe.

 Westgarth, 31, won his fight against Dec Spelman in Doncaster on Saturday but looked uncomfortable as he was interviewed ringside after his points victory.

 He was taken to Royal Hallamshire Hospital but his condition deteriorated shortly before arrival and his death was confirmed by his promoter Stefy Bull on Monday.

If they don't want this to happen in the sport, they should run it like Olympic boxing. Of course, no way do I know much about this. There are some folks out there that do, boxing is their sport.

Some people that watch boxing, want to see a knockout, loser falls to the canvas, face down and out for the count.

For the sheer violence and drama of it. Headgear would take the fun/thrill out of it.

I don't see how this new kick boxing junk hasn't killed someone already. Those punches aren't padded.
