Microsoft founder Bill Gates said on Sunday that wealthy individuals like him should be required by the government to pay "significantly" higher taxes.

"I need to pay higher taxes," the billionaire said on CNN's Fareed Zakaria GPS.

"I've paid more taxes, over $10 billion, than anyone else, but the government should require the people in my position to pay significantly higher taxes," he continued.

Gates' comments come after President Trump and congressional Republicans scored their first major legislative victory by passing a tax-cut bill last December.

Indeed. People in his position structure their assets in such a way as to minimize taxable income. Maybe if he had to pay an additional federal personal property/real property tax, the way we have to pay those taxes to our county, he'd sing a different tune.

Or he could stop being such a phony about the whole thing, and just write a check to the Feds in whatever additional amount he feels is right.

First of all, there are what, maybe 10 people like Bill Gates wealth wise in the US?

Second, he can send in whatever he feels is his fair share beyond what the law requires. The US treasury would be happy to accept it.

Third, how many millions if not billions has he spent over his lifetime hiring people to minimize his and his business' taxes to the minimum possible???

True, but that's not the point (IMO):

Personally, I think the super rich want higher "progressive" taxes because they know they can afford the tax lawyers that the merely "rich" can't.  Just like the big corps don't mind some of the anti-business regulations if it helps keep the little guys in their place.

Bottom line is if we confiscated all the wealth, not just income, of all the billionaires in the U.S., it'd come to maybe $2T, and would fund the Fedgov for maybe 6 months.

But that is not enough for them. It is not about THEM paying more. It is about them making the rest of the country to pay more. Any time they get any of their harebrained schemes forced into what is called "Law", it gives them an orgasim.

It is the desperate need. The obsessive compulsion for control that drives them. They have to control everybody's life to prove to themselves that they always know best.

So why don't all these super wealthy libs get  together and redistribute all that extra loot to the deserving masses who are now starving, naked, and without a roof over their heads living in the awful country known as the U.S.A?
I could be wrong, but I think it might be possible for Gates, Bezos, etal to live on just a measly billion dollars or two.
