My niece, a high school senior who has been thoroughly indoctrinated by her public high school, just posted a meme on Facebook to the effect that the Second Amendment applies only to the type of guns that existed in 1776.

@mountaineer

Frankly,I am a little surprised to discover that one is still around. It's so old that it was Handgun Control that started pushing it,and IIRC,they were the only organized anti-gun group going. I THINK they may have dropped their "original intent of the FF's" argument when someone started telling them "Fine,I guess that applies to Freedom of Speech,too. Kindly tell us your location so we can tell the police where to go."

I wish I could. Actually, I responded on her FB post, "By that logic, only words written with a quill pen are protected by the First Amendment," but deleted it.
I'm just too tired to get into any fights with her. You know what they say:

Maybe she could understand this:

Prolly not.

I just pray for her. It's pointless - at least for now - to try to convince her of the folly of her beliefs.

So the first amendment doesn't apply to the internet, typewriters or even ballpoint pens.

That would be the logical conclusion, but we're talking about an 18 year old high school kid. Logical thinking is a rarity.

I would think they could relate to the internet or their smart phone.

I've got a 21 and 17 year old (and an 8).  Logic isn't many of their classmates first thought, but most are capable of it when given a topic they are interested in.

The erroneous conclusion that the second amendment only covers flintlock muskets is not restricted to teenagers. I've seen that voiced or written by a number of adult liberals.  They really believe that the amendment was now void because today's weapons are far more sophisticated and dangerous.
But, of course, many libs will still argue vociferously that only militia members should have guns no matter how often the SC has interpreted the militia to mean all citizens and numerous quotes from Founding Fathers supporting the right of the average citizen to have firearms.

The goal of many libs today will be to pack the SC with hardcore libs, revoke the second amendment or interpret it to mean only the NG,  do house to house searches of American homes to confiscate (by force if necessary) the firearms of all citizens.
Then come the concentration camps, prisons, and executions of "haters" and "bigots"  and "enemies of the people." History would repeat itself.
Except today there would probably be another civil war. I don't think most conservatives would go down quietly.

This effort has community organizer all over it.

The libs always say 'It is for the kids' to get the public sympathy.

On page 225 of his book Behold a Pale Horse, author/intelligence expert William Cooper specifically warned that the Deep State planned at the time of his writing (1991) to use school shootings in some kind of bizarre false flag project to get our 2nd Amendment repealed.  Many serious researchers believe that the crooked feds are actually facilitating the school shootings by finding and even grooming crazy kids for the attacks.  (Their evidence of that is tenuous but still very disturbing.  William Cooper warned about this all over the country and got himself murdered for his trouble, I believe.)

Remember:  The 2nd Amendment has always been the biggest obstacle for the totalitarian Socialists.  (They have tried numerous false flags and false stats to get guns banned--e.g. Fast and Furious and more recently the LV massacre.)

While I am not against you in this @the_doc , One need not get into conspiracy theory to account for this kind.

All it takes is a kid falling down and *not* having an old man standing over him sayin, " Get up, boy. You ain't leaking. Get the f*** back up"...

And likewise an old man to slap him upside his head to clear his thinking now and then.

The society itself coddles these little monsters.

Many of these students would boycott a sunny day if it got them out of school for a day or two.

Thanks, I don't disagree with your social commentary.  Our society is on the whole pretty rotten.

But the fact remains that Cooper claimed to have intel that the Deep State was already working on a pernicious project as of 1991.  It might go way back to the things revealed in Congressional testimony about the CIA manipulating susceptible minds--doing so opportunistically, perhaps.  (Look up MK Ultra.  That project was a bona fide conspiracy, not just a conspiracy theory.  The CIA was supposed to have shut down MK Ultra, but I would doubt that they ever did.  [There are rogue elements of our CIA that are an order of magnitude more rotten than even our rotten society as a whole.])

As I tried to say in my earlier post, the Deep State needs for us to give up our 2nd Amendment.  If they have any way to facilitate school shootings, they will pull out all stops to do so.  (Of course, this includes opposing all really sane proposals--such as arming school staff, the way the Israelis did with complete success in dealing with similar problems.)

@goatprairie

Yeah,that might be the plan by the sheepherders,but AD army units are populated by people who understand they will be the ones paying the price for that bit of stupidity.

My long-time prediction of how gun confiscation will go in rural areas is a toll-free hotline offering big cash rewards for people who didn't turn all their guns in by a cutoff date,and the local cops kicking down your door while you are at work and confiscating your guns,and then arresting you at work.

Even that plan will have some of them paying the price because I live in a rural area,and if the local cops kick my door in and steal my weapons,one of them will get his door kicked in at 3 AM one morning for some audience participation gun confiscating.

I see no difference in a thief with a badge and court order stealing my possessions and a honest crackhead stealing my personal possessions. Stealing is stealing. When you start behaving like trash is when you start getting taken out like the trash.
