What would be way more effective than the wall would be to not give amnesty to anybody and start the deportation process.  If they know the game is up they won't come any longer.

Your approach would work if the Pubs had the stomach for it. The Soccer moms don't want to lose their nannies and landscapers. The media would tell one heart wrenching story after another. The Rats would be doing their moral preening about how "un-American it is to deport someone who only wants to be a good American". The chamber of commerce contributors would stop, or at a minimum reduce, their contributions to Pubs. IOW, good luck with trying to follow the actual law and save the republic.

Cruz, Lee, Sasse and Paul voted against all but the penalize sanctuary city bill.

I will remember for 2020.  Paul is more impressive than I thought and I still love Cruz.  Yes Frank I like Ben Sasse too!  If the President doesn't stay the course he is going to go down as biggest looser.

Any combination of such as above could be interesting.

AG William Barr: "I'm recused from that matter because one of the law firms that represented Epstein long ago was a firm that I subsequently joined for a period of time."

Alexander Acosta Labor Secretary resigned under pressure concerning his "sweetheart deal" with Jeffrey Epstein.  He was under consideration for AG after Sessions was removed, but was forced to resign instead.

The short run is what we are talkin' 'Bout, or at least I am.

If President Trump would sign anything that comes out of the Senate, all your demographic fears will come true.  Better to let this bet ride till 2018. Hopefully we pick up 5-8 seats.. at the least.

Then, maybe we get a bill designed for Americans.

The problem is we need to replace more than 14 Pub senators who voted with the Rats against Pres. Trump's plan. The vote today makes it clear the business first wing of the Pub party can do whatever they want with no consequences. Instead of standing together as a unified party and having a real good campaign issue, if no Rats voted with them, they showed that they are incapable of leading. The Pub party has no discipline on any major legislative issue.

IOW, they are playing us for fools.

We certainly need to get more R votes than the 4 who routinely derail conservative/R legislation.

I'm with you, but I will no longer vote for the Pub over the Rat because it's the lesser of two evils. If the Pub isn't a solid conservative like Cruz or Lee I won't vote for them.

Agreed; Paul is becoming more impressive. Trump cast doubt upon himself from the onset by flip-flopping and back pedaling on issues and his recent statement on granting a pathway to citizenship is no exception.  Yes, if he doesn't stay the course he will be a loser, but the biggest looser will be the America.  What will we do without her?

Agreed.  I don't know what state you live in but I think that my state is probably near 50% Hispanic.  Have to look it up.  By being sanctuary city our state has created the liberal voting base that they need to keep us enslaved in Liberal Socialism.

Securing the border should be the first not the last thing done.

I think E-Verify is the first thing that should be done.  But it's not even on the list ;(.

Yea, I know it's VOX, but here is a brief summary of all 4 bills rejected by the Senate today.

The Senate put 4 immigration bills up for a vote. They all failed.

Lawmakers couldn’t find a path forward to fix DACA.

By Dylan Scott@dylanlscottdylan.scott@vox.com    Feb 15, 2018, 4:07pm EST

The dream looks dead.

The Senate failed Thursday afternoon to advance any of the four immigration bills that were put on the floor for a vote, unable to make any movement toward protecting young people brought illegally to the United States as children.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell allowed debate on several possible fixes for those covered by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which includes about 700,000 people who face uncertainty about their deportation protections. President Trump has said he would rescind those protections in early March, putting the onus on Congress to come up with a permanent solution. Each and every one of those possible fixes came up short in a series of Thursday afternoon votes.

It leaves the Senate, after a government shutdown and month of negotiations, with no clear path forward on immigration, nearly six months after Trump said he would end the DACA program without congressional action.

Trump played his part in Thursday’s showdown: At midday on Thursday, the White House issued a veto threat against the bipartisan bill that seemed to have the best shot of winning the 60 votes needed — meaning even if the Senate had gotten enough support for the plan, Trump seemed unlikely to sign it.

Four immigration bills were put on the Senate floor, and four bills failed

Thanks for this summary!

Definitely not.  E-verify is nothing more than a method to track legal citizens!  Employers who hire illegals will continue to do so and will continue to pay them 'under the table' and certainly illegals aren't going to come out of the shadows and apply for some sort of i.d.  Those that have a fake i.d. have already 'navigated' the system and have found a means of support.

Why not simply take away the incentive that brings them here in the first place?

If they come here for freedom, then sentence them to some time in jail before deporting them.
If they come here for a chain green card, then stop giving chain green cards.
And if they come here for free stuff, then STOP GIVING THEM FREE STUFF!

With the new law, you might be right ;(.  I keep searching for stats about how many US businesses routinely use it.

In my state they don't hide in the shadows.  They get their Government tax id ITIN and apply for all kinds of credit.  Home loans, business loans, brand new cars........etc.  Its a normal way of life here.   And I am not sure how it works but they get huge tax returns.  Yes.............they file with ITIN.

That would be the best way.  First the government needs to withhold money to sanctuary states.  Then when they can't any longer support all of the illegal immigrants it stops.  Of course then they figure out a way to tax people out of their homes.

The solution is REALLY simple and all we lack is the WILL to do what's necessary!
"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
