FBI chief: Trump hasn't directed me to stop Russian meddling in midterms

FBI Director Christopher Wray on Tuesday said President Trump hasn’t directed him to stop Russian efforts to interfere in this year’s midterm elections.

“We’re taking a lot of specific efforts to blunt Russian efforts,” Wray said when Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) asked if he’d been directed by Trump to do so.

“As directed by the president?” Reed interjected.

“Not as specifically directed by the president,” Wray responded.

It appears Sen. Jack Reed (D-R.I.) is unclear what the real job of the F.B.I is.

Reed is trying to make something out of nothing.  Wray already said they were taking steps to thwart it.  Internal national security is a general part of their responsibilities.  All I get from Wray saying he wasn't specifically ordered to do so is the President understands the FBI role and isn't micromanaging.

I just don’t think the President has any interest in Russian meddling in US elections. Reports are that Russian meddling is not included in the oral briefings to the President because including them would “derail” the meetings.  Trump apparently just doesn’t want to hear or care about Russian meddling in the elections.  That’s not surprising to me given that the President has said about Putin:

"Every time he sees me he says, 'I didn't do that,' and I really believe that when he tells me that, he means it. But he says, 'I didn't do that.' I think he is very insulted by it, which is not a good thing for our country," also said Trump, who deflected answering a direct question about whether he believed Putin's denial.
