MEMPHIS, Tenn. — The statue of Nathan Bedford Forrest, one of the Confederacy’s favorite sons, stood in Forrest Park in Memphis, overlooking the busy thoroughfare of Union Avenue for over a century.

The bronze monument to Forrest — cast in Paris at a cost of nearly $33,000 and weighing 9,500 pounds — was dedicated with great fanfare in his adopted hometown in 1905. Joining the statue were the remains of Forrest and his wife, which had been moved from a local cemetery. For the white aristocracy of Memphis who had raised the funds for his installation, it was a banner day.

The entire balance of the story is completely slanted and designed to provoke hatred.

Having recently come thru the "Age of Entitlement" we have entered the "Age of Victimhood."

Here are some aspects of monuments in America's history--which are interesting.

I am in favor of preserving our history. I know for example, the historic version of "The Battle of Little Big Horn" once was mainly seen thru soldiers and white's eyes. But the version now depicts both sides.

We have not reached the stage of destroying various monuments about Gen. George Custer.

I agree.  Lasting figures in our history should not be vilified or their statues and pictures destroyed because of temporary hissy fits.

Yes, slavery was bad.  We all know that.  But we also know that it was prevalent in the South and to blame one guy for it is ridiculous.
