As a male human being, I want our own English word back.  In Anglo-Saxon "man" was equivalent to the Greek anthropos, while the equivalent of aner was "wapman".  Woman is the modern version of "wifman".

Thus mankind, chairman, fireman, and the like are actually genderless, and we wapmen lost our own word are are stuck with the generic word man.
