Would you take a vaccine that is claimed to be '10% effective?'
By Ed Straker

A new study has concluded that this year's flu vaccine was only 10% effective.

The study, from the journal Eurosurveillance, found that the flu vaccine was only 10 percent effective against H3N2 (the main flu subtype going around this season) among adults in Canada.

Well, I got my shot early -- before it was announced that the vaccine was almost worthless.  If I had known the vaccine's effectiveness was going to be almost zero, I might have skipped it this year.

I would like to know how and why this vaccine didn't do the job nd who is to blame.  I realize predicting which strain will be dominant is  basically guesswork and even in a good flu season, the right vaccine isn't all that effective.  But really, I think this year, someone screwed up.

Of course, we will probably never know what happened.

From what I've read its always about 10% effective.   They get the wrong strain on the majority of years.

A bit more effective than 10%, according to the CDC:

yeah the good ole CDC, where their Director just resigned when it was found out she was investing in tobacco firms at the same time she was making decisions effecting big tobacco.

Well, no wonder they can't come up with an effective vaccine.  Too busy taking care of themselves instead of serving the best interests of the public.

All of these government departments, bureaus and agencies are Ling overdue for a thorough investigation and a good sweeping out.

Yup.

Have had everyone around me get the flu (yes, real flu) and not have it hit me, despite lots of close contact.
