The core of progressivism is the belief that good intentions overrides everything else. Math, economics, basic human nature ect doesn't matter as long as your heart is in the right place.
I have little interest in streamlining government or in making it more efficient, for I mean to reduce its size. I do not undertake to promote welfare, for I propose to extend freedom. My aim is not to pass laws, but to repeal them.

Quote
For one year, several dozen Stockton families will get $500 a month, no strings attached.

The end result will be a couple of crack dealers will be ecstatic with joy at the guaranteed income,and the neighbors are going to be PISSED that "THEY" aren't getting the "free money",too.

With any luck at all there are going to be riots,and parasites killing each other off to eliminate competition.

The Mayor ain't going to be so happy,though. HE is going to get ALL the blame for not giving 500 bucks a month to everybody.

Universal basic welfare.

It is insane that even some Conservatives and Libertarians (so-called) are arguing the merits of this.

@AbaraXas

Those people are all-theory and no experience. Once you make people pets by giving them money they didn't earn,they will DEMAND you never require them to do any work for their money at any time in the future.

We have what,3 or 4 generations of "professional welfare dependents" already,and THAT didn't tell them something?

I don't disagree, but I also don't think that completely getting rid of welfare, socialism etc. is realistic in the current political environment.

@Weird Tolkienish Figure

Nor SHOULD we eliminate it. What we SHOULD do is require all the parasites that call themselves charities  that get government grants and tax breaks to either spend 90 percent or so of the money they take in on the needy,NOT on paying themselves wages,paying for trips to Hawaii to attend seminars,not for passing it up their religious food chain,not for buying votes for politicians,etc,etc,etc.

You either open your books and PROVE the money you receive is going to the needy,or you start paying taxes on it and lose the legal right to call yourself a charity.

I can already hear the heads of various churches screaming in outrage that this would even be suggested.

He'll want credit for his "good intentions."

Along with more funding.

Because "The program itself is sound, Representative Snatch and Grab, It's simply Underfunded."
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

@To-Whose-Benefit?

That's true enough,but it won't help him with the typical crackhead gangsta voter that is pissed because he or she "ain't be get-tin MY drug monies!" These people ain't know for deep-thinking or even understanding simple explanations.

If we were going to scream about a seperation of Church and state we should have been doing it when the government was taking over the traditional roles of the Church.

To liberals, Church and state are one.  They are not separate entities.  Since they are "one," there is no way to separate them.  This also explains why they favor islam so much as it is church and state, also.

Islam (yes, they are that callous) gives them another disadvantaged 'Minority Group' that needs Democrat special protections/Rights from Republicans.
