Dozens of British tourists trapped in a 'disgusting and horrible' Cuban hotel are begging Thomas Cook to let them go home, a distraught holidaymaker has said.

Charles Powell, 74, said he is 'despairing' after spending nearly a week at the Sol Rio de Luna and Mares Resort on the east of the Caribbean island.

His wife, 73-year-old Johanna, has contracted pneumonia in large part because of the damp and mould in the couple's room, he added.  ...

 'There's also lots of food poisoning. Large numbers of people are ill, shattered, worn out and disappointed. We have to get out of this hell hole. It is disgusting and horrible.'   ...

My nephew and his wife went to the Dominican Republic a few years ago and liked it very much.

This past November he went with some of his buddies, all cigar aficionados to Nicaragua for a tobacco plantation and cigar factory tour. Before the travel ban was reinstated, he told me he’d go to Cuba if there was anything similar tour and accommodations wise to the Nicaragua trip.

P.S. He does love Cuban cigars……and yes, there are ways to get them here in the US.

The reviews on Trip Advisor ought to be entertaining.

Canooks have told me they go to Cuba knowing that the resorts are sub par, but it's a really cheap way to escape the winter for a while.
