Assange’s poor hygiene stirred recent move by Ecuadorian Embassy

Staff at the Ecuadoran Embassy in London grew tired of whiffing WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who reportedly does not attend to his own personal hygiene.

It’s that lack of cleanliness, among other things, that fueled Ecuador’s recent attempts to end his five-year standoff at the Knightsbridge embassy, the International Business Times reported.

“It seems he doesn’t wash properly,” a “well-placed” source told the news outlet, noting the issue has prompted repeated complaints from staff at the embassy.

Guess what? Through the 70s and 80s I had a lot of contact with folks from Europe, starting with living there for nearly a year and half.

They smelled. They did not bathe nearly as often as Americans. They covered their BO with deodorants.

The English were no better than the Germans.

Must be pretty bad if he's grossing out the Brits.

Those in the Ecuadorian embassy naturally must be Ecuadorians. I think that's the way the story reads. Sure, it is in England but his "asylum" (protection) is from being in there. Are not Embassies largely sovereign territory in another country.

If people who live in a shithole like Ecuador think you smell bad, you really gotta be ripe.

I don't know about that.  Always thought all the hired help were locals.  But...I could be wrong, never been there.  I do remember the people who worked for us in Libya were Libyans, which was the problem there.

They eat ceviche, which is uncooked seafood stew cured in citrus juice.  They can stomach that, but not Pasty Boy.

I guess things don't change that much down the centuries.  I was just telling some folks at church this morning about the fork first being introduced to Western Europe by the Princess Theophano, in the late 10th century, and how she also scandalized the Frankish court by insisting on bathing daily.

And when they behead your own people in the wars which are to come, then you will know what this was all about.

I've only been to a couple of US embassies for very short visits for very specific reasons, but IIRC,there are areas within US embassies where some locals are allowed to visit, and other areas where it is US only. I know I always had an escort to take me where I needed to go and to take me back out. No wandering around free.

I have no idea how  foreign embassies operate.

I'm going to guess his layer of filth acts as a barrier against whatever Pam Anderson is carrying when she visits him.
