Chelsea Manning files for Senate run in Maryland

Whistleblower and transgender activist Chelsea Manning has filed to run for a U.S. Senate seat in Maryland, The Washington Post reports.

Election filings show that Manning, 30, submitted her candidacy to the Federal Election Commission on Thursday as a Democrat.

Manning will run against Sen. Ben Cardin (D), Maryland's senior senator, for the party nomination in November. Cardin is expected to a win the race to serve a third term.

Gotta love this country.  Only here could such a person not only not be in jail where he belongs, but run for a Senate seat.

If he-she can win the nomination, there's a good chance he-she will win the election.

After all, it's Maryland. Normal rules of logic no longer apply there.

Can he vote for himself being a felon and all?  I know the Obastard gave him a pardon.  Does it wipe out the conviction

There wasn't a pardon - the sentence was commuted.  There must be some terribly lax candidate qualifications, if Manning is truly eligible.  Has to be a stunt.  The interviews and debates would be funny as hell, though.  Campaign music will be from Rocky Horror.

It’s frickin’ Maryland!  Felons get their right to vote back upon completion of their sentence according to http://www.elections.state.md.us/voter_registration/restoration.html

And I though Al Frankenstein being elected to the Senate was ridiculous.
