A government watchdog is expressing concern over the dangerous misuse of a laundry detergent. In this latest social media fad, teenagers are putting detergent pods in their mouths in what's being called the "Tide Pod Challenge."

Ingredients in the pods include ethanol, hydrogen peroxide and polymers – a highly-toxic mix of detergent meant to wipe out dirt and grime. Manufacturers have been concerned about toddlers mistakenly ingesting them, but now teens are popping them on purpose and posting videos of the results online, reports CBS News correspondent Anna Werner.

Those little pods, well, I know what they are. Difficult to describe. Liquid detergent in a little, around the size of a thumb, plastic pillow sack.   It doesn't say anyone has died yet from it.

You are right, the Tide or some brand has some that look like those. I've just seen totally blue ones, sort of like this:



The Tide ones (or some brand at least) must look something like this:



I have never seen them look like the 2nd picture but I can imagine them.

The worst part about this is that these people KNOW that what they're doing is harmful to themselves, and they do it anyway.
