Don’t believe the lies about the US being at ‘full employment’

By John Crudele

January 8, 2018 | 10:59pm | Updated

We’ve already started to hear this lie: the US is at full employment. That nearly everyone who wants a job has got a job.

The lie started during President Obama’s second term, when the job market was truly lousy. And now that President Trump is in charge, the lie is again coming out of the mouths of economists.

Let me be clear about something. Parts of the US economy are doing better than they were post-recession. Other parts haven’t even gotten back to their pre-Great Recession levels.

We are still using adjusted U3 numbers that our side called fake and phony from 2009 onward when Obama shifted to reporting on those over U6.

The current U6 Unemployment number stands at just above 8%. The labor force participation rate is still at or close to record lows.

I read a lot of economic news and I don't see many places arguing that we are at full employment. What is this guy talking about?

At that, you can find articles starting around 2015 making these claims based on adjusted U3 numbers.

I had to go 15 paragraphs down to get to some no name idiot being quoted the title of the click bait article.

Another article that says it, but doesn't show it. This is a click bait stunt.

Also consider that there is still a "skills gap:" companies refusing to consider the available perspective employees because they expect the applicant to know everything about the specific job AND have experience before they hire anyone.

If we were at full employment, they'd start training people and reopen the entry level (as opposed to the dead-end bottom level that gets nobody anywhere).
