Election-law expert: Feds do have right to states' voter details

President Trump has scrapped the commission he created to investigate problems with alleged voter fraud, blaming state leaders for refusing to share data that could help to determine the extent of any problem.

Instead, he’s turned the investigation over to the Department of Homeland Security and is urging Congress to pass a national Voter ID law.

“Despite substantial evidence of voter fraud, many states have refused to provide the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity with basic information relevant to its inquiry,” said White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders in a statement Wednesday.
