As we do every year, Al-Monitor asked its columnists and contributors how events will shape the Middle East, and the world, in 2018. The following pictures include their predictions.

Iraq will hold parliamentary and provincial elections in the middle of 2018, and Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi is expected to resume office with a broad coalition of Sunni and Shiite forces, in an attempt to confront sectarianism and corruption that dominate the political scene in Iraq.
