Michele Bachmann mulls run for Al Franken's Senate seat

Former Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., said Tuesday she is considering running for Al Franken's Senate seat, but is worried she will face disastrous attacks from the media and Democrats as a Christian politician.

"I've had people contact me and urge me to run for that Senate seat, and the only reason I would run is for the ability to take these principles into the United States Senate," Bachmann said in an interview with Jim Bakker Tuesday. "The question is should it be me? Should it be now?"

How to lose credibility while posting:

If she was still in, I might be more favorable, but bringing someone out of retirement I've never been a big fan of in politics.

Her age isn't a problem, but her politics would likely preclude winning statewide office in MN.

Franken’s resignation Tuesday comes after a cloud of sexual misconduct allegations starting in November. His replacement, Lt. Gov. Tina Smith, will be sworn in Wednesday and plans to run for the seat in a November election.

Bachman could join Smith in the race. She told televangelist Jim Bakker during his Dec. 27 show that she is praying about it after being asked to consider a bid.
