Iran's protests are powerful and real. Why are mainstream media outlets so hesitant to report on them?
By Stephen L. Miller | Fox News

... The question that needs to be asked right now is why traditional mainstream media outlets – grandstanding over their importance in this new, bold era of fact-checking and truth-telling – have largely ignored a blossoming revolution.

Anyone on Twitter could click #IranProtests and view videos and eyewitness accounts that contradicted much of Western media’s early reporting about these protests being simply about economic anxiety as was the case with The New York Times and Washington Post. But the now three-day duration of rallies and protests that have found their way to Tehran have gone largely unnoticed in America’s corporate media apparatus. The New York Times simply described the protests as economic grievances, the same way Iranian state-run television described them.

CNN ignored the protests completely, and the explosion on social media until a front page story reporting on not uprisings against the regime, but a pro-government rally and President Trump’s tweet in support of the protestors. ...   More at FOX News

If there is ever to be anything remotely resembling stability in the Middle East again the Mullahs currently in control of the Iranian government are going to have to be forcibly removed.

@Bigun I agree, but we have a habit of backing the wrong horse. We went from the Shah to the Ayatollahs, Batista to Castro, etc.....

Big protests in Iran. The people are finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism. Looks like they will not take it any longer. The USA is watching very closely for human rights violations!

Iran restricts social media and issues stern warning to protesters
CNN, Dec 31, 2017, Updated 10:30 AM ET

<snip>

'Death to the dictator'

In a rare display of public dissent, some protesters directed their ire at Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei, according to some videos on social media. CNN has not independently verified the authenticity of the footage.

In another video also circulating on social media, Iranians can be overheard chanting "We don't want an Islamic Republic" and "Death to the dictator." The video purports to show demonstrators in the western city of Khorramabad.

In addition to these anti-government slogans, chants of "Death to the Revolutionary Guards" can also be heard in another video posted on social media.

US-Iran war of words

President Donald Trump has voiced his support for anti-government protesters in several tweets throughout the weekend, sparking a war of words with the Iranian government.

"Big protests in Iran," the President wrote Sunday morning. "The people are finally getting wise as to how their money and wealth is being stolen and squandered on terrorism. Looks like they will not take it any longer."  ....

Iranian officials have pointed to foreign intervention as being behind the protests.

I've read speculation that the US and Saudis may have had a "hand" in this.

The anti-government protests targeting government and religious leaders sweeping across Iran took a bloody turn Sunday as overnight reports surfaces of two protestors being killed at the hands of the corrupt government. Disgustingly, the deaths didn’t trigger much air on the three major American networks. ABC’s Good Morning America had a blackout of the deaths and protests all together while NBC only found 24 seconds for them. CBS finally discovered the protests, as they continued into their fourth day, dedicating a meager 16 seconds.

Iran's president on Sunday offered his first public remarks on the demonstrations in his country, saying Iranians participating in anti-government protests have the right to voice their concerns, but that they should resist violence.

President Hassan Rouhani's first public reaction comes after four days of demonstrations during which tens of thousands of people protested against the clerical leadership and the state of the economy.

He is only voicing support for the protests against economic injustices, not the calls for the downfall of the Islamic Republic, but still, it is significant that a major figure of the Iranian clerical establishment would break ranks.

What Has Brought Iranian Protesters to Streets?

LONDON —

Iran warned of a tough crackdown on Sunday against demonstrators posing one of the boldest challenges to its clerical leaders since nationwide unrest shook the Islamist theocracy in 2009.

How serious are the protests?

Political protests are rare in Iran, where security services are pervasive. And yet tens of thousands of people have protested across the country since Thursday. The demonstrations are the biggest since unrest in 2009 that followed the disputed re-election of then-President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

They began in Iran’s second city of Mashhad in the northeast on Thursday and spread to Tehran and other urban centers. Iranians vented their anger over a sharp increase in prices of basic items like eggs, and a government proposal to increase fuel prices in next year’s budget.
