Richard Gates, who was indicted in special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe, is getting a brief reprieve from house arrest to attend New Year's Eve activities with his family.
Gates, who was a business associate of former Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort, filed a request on Thursday asking Judge Amy Berman Jackson if he could "accompany his family to events for the New Year's Eve holiday from Sunday, December 31, 2017, through Monday, January 1, 2017."
The holiday events are located less than 60 miles from Gates's home in Virginia, according to the documents.
Jackson granted the motion, saying "good cause" was shown.
