Victorious on taxes, GOP wonders: What's next?

By Scott Wong - 12/26/17 04:00 PM EST

Still basking in their tax victory, President Trump and Republican leaders are grappling with a key question: What major legislative issue should they pursue next?

Speaker Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) has made clear that he wants to tackle welfare and entitlement reforms next year — perhaps using a special budget process to avoid a Democratic filibuster. But Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) has sent a different signal, saying Senate Republicans should look to pursue more bipartisan legislation in the coming year.

White House officials are already setting high expectations, saying the administration will begin its push for welfare reform, entitlement reform and a major infrastructure package at the start of the New Year.

And many conservatives are pressing GOP leadership to take another crack at repealing ObamaCare, despite the push to legislation in January that is intended to stabilize the law’s insurance markets.

There will be no "bipartisanship" as long as the Democrats want to continue their scorched earth tactic of denying Trump even the most insignificant victory, as they did in all of '17.  "Bipartisanship" is foolish to expect, although it would not look bad if we gave the appearance of trying.   The Dems were harmed by their antics this past year, no matter how many sweet nothings the media whispers in their ears about how swell they are doing.  Why does anybody think the "Polls" are more biased than ever?

As for my personal feeling about bipartisanship. I like what George Carlin says:
For unvaccinated, we are looking at a winter of severe illness and death — if you’re unvaccinated — for themselves, their families, and the hospitals they’ll soon overwhelm. Sloe Joe Biteme 12/16
I will NOT comply.

"Victorious on taxes, GOP wonders: What's next?"

How about fully repealing and replacing obamacare?

How about fully funding the wall construction project?

How about getting rid of the Senate filibuster rule once and for all?

That's a start...
