House extends break by a week, will remain out of session until Jan. 8
by Diana Stancy Correll | Dec 22, 2017, 4:43 PM

The House of Representatives will remain out of session until the second week of January, pushing back their return date by another week.

“The second session of the 115th Congress will now convene on January 8, 2018, with the first and only vote being a quorum call at 6:30 PM,” a statement from House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, R-LA, read.

Previously, the House was scheduled to be in session the week of Jan. 1, 2018.

Meanwhile, the Senate will be in session starting on Jan. 3, 2018, and so far has booked 54 more days in session than their House counterparts, according to Roll Call.

However, both chambers are in session fewer days in 2018 than they were in 2017. The chambers typically update their schedules during election years such as 2018 to provide time for campaigning.

I'm inclined to cut Congress some slack on this.  They stayed late to get their most important piece of work finished, and, more importantly, the country is safe from their chicanery for an extra week.

Are they still doing the pro forma sessions to keep Trump from doing recess appointments?

I don't think there are any applicable nominations open for this option.  It's not used on every opening, like Judge.

Title:
"House extends break by a week, will remain out of session until Jan. 8"

I reckon that America would be better-served if they extended it until next July, and then declared recess in August and went home for the rest of the year...

Probably got tipped off about cases of expensive booze gonna be under their trees.

Take a while for the hangovers to subside.
My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

that important piece of work like a budget you mean?
Oh, I forgot.  It was another kicking the can down the road.

A budget is a Constitutional mandate.  We do not have one.

When was the last real budget passed?

Yup.  He gets punished for his perfidy the same way Lois Lerner got punished.

Right.  Nothing important on the agenda right now and we probably wouldn't notice if they were off for a month.
