Megachurch swindles elderly woman in Ohio, lawsuit claims
CBS News

A megachurch in Ohio is accused of coercing an elderly woman to hand over hundreds of thousands of dollars, CBS Chicago reports. The woman is mentally ill and has dementia. She is now under the care of the Cook County public guardian, who is fighting to reclaim her life-savings.

Bridget Pollard, 76, has lived by herself since her husband died in 2015. The childless woman lived in hoarding conditions and blocked relatives' efforts to help her, Pollard's niece Bridget Johnson says.

Her niece says that Pollard emptied out her late husband's state pension, and it wasn't long before she wrote a $340,000 check, payable to Grace Cathedral. The megachurch in Akron, Ohio, televises the ministry of Rev. Ernest Angley.

Just posting some of the human interests stories that show up in the bing newsfeed, not an agenda.

The preacher of this church is 96, I thought I recognized the name. I believe he has been on TV as a faith healer. Of course, this was some time ago, 20, 30 years. Ernest Angley, fairly well known.

Being sued for a large amount on a loan default as well.

I remember seeing him (and his fake hair) on TV at least 40 years ago. He tended to bolster the negative stereotype of TV evangelists.

There is a lot of religious programming. Some has guys like Angley, Osteen, Swaggart, et al., about whom it's easy suspect money is their only motive - but not all. If you ever have a chance to see Frank Turek on "I don't have enough faith to be an atheist," it's worth watching. Some of the people on Christian TV are just there to explain Scripture, not gather up enough money for a new Gulfstream, honest.

We have had plenty of such operators from SoCal. Still have some.

Benny Hinn comes first to mind. He lives in a multi-million house.

Marjoe Gortner sort of exposed the scams for anybody that had the capacity to see.
