Port Authority Explosion Reports Prompt Police Response In New York City

Police are responding to reports of an explosion near New York City’s Port Authority during Monday morning’s rush hour, prompting evacuations on multiple subway lines.


NYPD confirmed to Fox News they are investigating reports of an explosion “of an unknown origin.” Police tweeted A, C, E subways lines are being evacuated.

NYC Office of Emergency Management also tweeted there was “police activity” near West 42nd Street between Eighth and Ninth avenues and advised commuters to expect delays.

Early, unconfirmed reports of a pipe bomb set off in transportation terminal passageway.

Fox News reports one male suspect in NYPD custody.

Device used said to have either malfunctioned or predetonated.

Report I heard as I was heading out the door a few minutes ago said the pipe bomb went off early and the person they have in custody appeared to be wearing some kind of suicide vest.

That was a report passed to Fox via one of their police sources.

MANHATTAN — An injured suspected bomber is in custody after a possible pipe bomb explosion in Manhattan, according to police.  Multiple subway lines have been evacuated, and trains are bypassing Times Square and Port Authority.

The explosion occurred at West 44th Street and Eighth Avenue, sources said.

A man with a “possible second device" has been detained in the subway tunnel, sources said. He was described him as “having wires coming out of him.”

Police later confirmed a suspected bomber was injured and detained. The extent of his or her injuries is not known.

Fox News Rick Leventhal reports male suspect is 27 year old Brooklyn resident with 'foreign name.'

Other sources reporting person is from Bangladesh and has been in the US for 7 years.

I live on the NJ transit bus route.

I just got a text the buses aren’t running into the city. They are currently going as far as Trenton-Princeton, New Brunswick.

And New Brunswick-Highland Park,  Edison/Metuchen /Woodbridge.

I don’t know if they are going from Edison / OuterBridge Crossing to Staten Island.

(No one wants to go to Staten Island, lol)

Hey! I resemble that! I’m near the OuterBridge.

At least Staten Island is a conservative stronghold. Which is why New Yorkers refer to Staten Island as the Forgotten Borough; that, and the fact that it’s closer to New Jersey, and isolated from the rest of New York by the Verrazano Narrows.
