President Trump’s unenviable North Korea options

North Korea tested its new Hwasong-15 intercontinental ballistic missile Tuesday, launching the missile to an altitude of around 2,800 miles (10 times higher than the International Space Station).

While the missile test landed in nearby Japanese waters, the 53-minute flight time and distance traveled confirmed that the Hermit Kingdom has the technical capability to threaten the entirety of the continental United States...........

..............Analysts remain uncertain about whether the weight of a nuclear warhead would affect the Hwasong-15’s distance, but nonetheless, North Korea has demonstrated that it poses a provable, kinetic nuclear threat to America..............

.............Given that direct U.S. and U.N. sanctions against North Korea are almost maxed out, there’s not much the president can do to alter the course of Pyongyang’s nuclear program through sanctions alone........

...........There’s no easy fix. War would result in the deaths of untold innocents, and a massive humanitarian crisis. On the other hand, continuing to ignore the problem only empowers North Korea in its quest to usurp U.S. interests.

President Trump has an unenviable situation on his hands. It will be up to the White House and the defense community to find leverage in mitigating the threat caused by the dictatorship in Pyongyang.

Romans 12:16-21

Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty, but associate with the lowly, do not claim to be wiser than you are.  Do not repay anyone evil for evil, but take thought for what is noble in the sight of all.  If it is possible, so far as it depends on you, live peaceably with all…do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good.

Mr. Trump ought to privately advise the Chinese that they have six to eight months in which to remove the lil' fat boy and denuclearize North Korea.

He must strongly emphasize to the Chinese that we are turning to them first for their cooperation and giving them the option to bring this problem to a resolution, in a gesture of good-faith and recognition of China's rising influence in Asia.

BUT... Mr. Trump must conclude such an offer with the warning that if -- after the expiration of this period with the fat boy still in charge and the nukes still there -- that China would be well advised to get all their civilian and diplomatic people OUT OF North Korea, for their own safety.

And then... say no more.

There’s no question Trump inherited a mess on North Korea, and it certainly appears to me that there aren’t that many good options.  Unfortunately, Trump has set the expectation that he’ll “handle it”; that “we will take care of it”; that NK threats would be met with “fire and fury”; and that relative to their attempts for launching a nuke to the US:  “it won’t happen”.   Well, the world is waiting.  He set the expectations:  I say put up or shut up.

He has to. There is no way responsible leadership can allow a lunatic despotic regime to brandish nukes on ICBMs, which they've already threatened to use on us.

IMO we may wake up any day now to read that the US has struck pre-emptively.
