Cruz Asks ‘What’s The Difference Between A Democrat And A Socialist?’ The Answer Will Stun You

CNN hosted a debate last night over the embattled GOP tax plan.

The massive tax plan has faced deep criticism from congressional Democrats in both the House and Senate as it slowly moves forward. The bill will be reaching floor votes in the Senate soon, and Republican hopes for the legislation are high. Sens. Ted Cruz, Bernie Sanders, Tim Scott and Maria Cantwell debated tax reform Tuesday night on CNN. Their colorful exchanges were marked with made-for-TV moments and clapbacks. However, one question really stung for moderate Democrats.

When an audience member, who grew up under communist regimes in Nicaragua and Cuba, asked wh Sanders wants to raise taxes for her business, Bernie demurred. The democratic socialist from Vermont said:

Cantwell’s answer:

You know, Ted, I really thought about this issue of you trying to divide the Democrats. But we’re a big-tent party. There’s room for Bernie and there’s room for me. The difference is you guys keep trying to isolate your party.

So, the response is a complete non-sequitur.

One of the really annoying things about dems.  They cannot answer questions truthfully because to do so would make them look bad.

And so, not only do they make meaningless responses but they make them at great length and with earnest expressions.

There used to be Democrats who would support cutting taxes. The problem is that the Democratic Party in today’s Senate has become more extreme. Bernie and I have done three of these debates. He’s a socialist. He admits he’s a socialist and wants to raise everyone’s taxes. And so, Maria, I’d like to ask you a question that I asked Bernie last time. This is a tax debate. What is the difference between a Democrat and a socialist on taxes?

Honestly the saddest part is the fact that so few republicans have the courage to state clearly and without shame that tax revenue NEEDS to fall. Instead I see many of them talking about a trigger to raise taxes on some if revenue begins to fall. Falling revenue should be a feature, not a bug.

How can they refute Bernie when he may be their 2020 candidate?

Won't that be fun.

Once again, Cruz is no coward to making controversial statements.

That is neither a controversial statement nor a controversial question.

There is basically no difference between a communist and a socialist ... it's just semantics.

And the dems have morphed into socialism and can't find their way out, or don't want to.

It’s not a feature if spending doesn’t drop as well.

100% correct.  The problem is, it's a ratchet.  No politician wants to quit being Santa Claus long enough to cut spending, even by 1%.

While we're on the subject, I've grown to detest the term "Deficit Hawk."  John McCain is often called a Maverick Deficit Hawk because he hates cutting taxes.  Why does the Deficit only matter when we're talking about tax cuts?  Why isn't anybody a "Deficit Hawk" when the subject on the table is spending?

One of my church friends on Facebook is furious that the credit for adoption is being eliminated in the new tax bill.

That, my friends, is the crux of the matter.  Most people like the idea of a flat tax but still want the deductions that matter to them.

In states with high state income taxes, they want to retain that deduction.

Everyone seems to want to retain the homeowners deduction.

I like Ted Cruz's plan.  Taxes filed on a postcard, flat rate, no deductions.

I dunno Ted, most of us are asking "What's the difference between a Democrat and a Republican?", and the answer many of us have come to is: 'none'.

Well, maybe that the GOP leadership thinks they can better-manage Statism and the Democrat agenda.  But that is about it as far as we can discern.

That would work also but either plan eliminates that hideous agency, the IRS.

We should not have to live under a tyrannical agency that has the power to hound and harass people.

Unfortunately your BIL is only one among many!  And I completely agree with you that a free people should NEVER allow their government to have such a tool as the IRS at their disposal!

Cruz Asks:
‘What’s The Difference Between A Democrat And A Socialist?’

The socialist will try to hide from you the fact that inside, he's really a communist.

The democrat doesn't even bother any more.

(That's why I refer to 'em as "democrat-communists" in my posts)

My 'Viking Hunter' High Adventure Alternate History Series is FREE, ALL 3 volumes, at most ebook retailers including Ibooks, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, and more.

In Vol 2 the weapons come out in a winner take all war on two fronts.

Vol 3 opens with the rigged murder trial of the villain in a Viking Court under Viking law to set the stage for the hero's own murder trial.

I didn’t watch the debate, but I hear that Tim Scott came off like a real rising star.  Which of course means that he’ll go nowhere because he’s too conservative for D.C.
