Gunman dead after firing from high-rise Reno condo tower

Nov. 29 (UPI) -- Police shot and killed a gunman Tuesday night after they say he fired into the street from an upper floor of a Reno, Nev., condo tower.

The gunman began shooting what was described as an automatic-type rifle from a position on the eighth floor of the Montage apartment building in downtown Reno on Tuesday night, police said.

Several rounds were fired in a 30-minute period as Reno police closed Sierra Street and surrounding roadways downtown. Residents were told by intercom to stay sheltered in their rooms shortly after 7 p.m.

Nutty story.

Sounds like there was a rapid response to this problem and thankfully, it sounds like no one was hurt or killed but the gunman.

"Several" rounds in a half hour? Sounds slower than the average Civil War-era rifle.

It makes you wonder, doesn't it?  If "journalists" know so little about a very hot topic like guns, what do they know about the other stuff they report on?

Actually, who said this might have been the police themselves and it sounds like the gunman had a hostage so maybe ever so often, he fired out the window. Now, that I read up on other stories, it may well be different than some "sniper copycat" of Las Vegas which it does sound like at first.

A preliminary investigation indicates the shooter was acting alone, he said in a statement. He said the female hostage escaped injury and no one else was seriously hurt.

"This case is actively being investigated, and no additional information will be released at this time," Gallop said. The name of the gunman has not been released.

Reno Deputy Police Chief Tom Robinson told reporters that officers on the scene indicated the suspect who appeared to be in his mid- to late-20s may have been seeing things.

Again, one might explore this more, I was looking for official statements from the Reno Police Department but it sounds a bit like they are just saying what the police said.
