I recently wrote a short history of body armor article for Small Wars Journal where I pointed out that there has long been an “arms race” between two different types of military technology - ammunition and the protection against it. No mention of Benet cup or bar/anvil primers, nor of swedged primer pockets in the early centerfire cartridges (all three types, rimfire, and discrete centerfire primers have been found in the vicinity of Fort Buford, Dakota Territory).
