How to Overcome Grief When You’re Diagnosed With IBD

A sense of helplessness and confusion washed over Serena Goldsmith when she first received her Crohn’s disease diagnosis in her twenties, shortly after she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.

“Doctors told me that Crohn’s is a chronic and terrible condition and said ‘we’ll do the best we can, but there is no cure at this time,'" Goldsmith says. “I had this sense of helplessness, that there’s nothing I can do about my condition and I have to rely on what the doctor has available.”
