CNN is pointing out the fact that assaulting a Congressman is a felony!  I hope he sees several years behind bars  -- he's also admitted to the attack.  Lock him up!  Oh wait ... they've called in the FBI -- Paul's a REP -- we all know how this could go.

Misdemeanor ??  Really.  This seems far more serious to me.  I would call it felony assault.

He's not my favorite politician but ouch! No one should have to go through this.

Agree, felony assault or something with a strict prison term of a few years in the pokey. He could have killed him!

The left is crazy? Just 'Off the Deep End?'

Stupid like this deserves severe legal consequences.

If any of us here broke 5 of Anyone else's ribs you can take it to the bank we'd have the book thrown at us, but a U.S. Senator?

A U.S. Senator? It'd be Honey, Don't even think about mortgaging the house to make our bail. You're going to need every cent you can get just to keep the place, with us going indoors for a few years.

When I bruised my ribs on a mountain bike, from a sudden stop, my abdomen actually hit the handlebars and it bent the handlebars, steel.  So, this must have been some tackle or however Senator Paul was injured.

The FBI is apparently looking into this as should be as this was an assault on a sitting Senator. I sense that this may be politically motivated.  His attacker was a physician as well and Paul was very outspoken against Bammycare; that's the only thing that makes sense right now.  Anyone know if he actually has to physically be in the Senate in order to vote??  I'm hoping he can vote 'remotely' as the vote for the tax bill is just around the corner.

I’m confused about the point you are trying to make? Are you inferring that Paul deserved it somehow or that you don’t believe he suffered 5 broken ribs or it was somehow exaggerated? FWIW broken ribs can be life threatening.

I wouldn't have bothered to link to U.S. Title 18 Federal Criminal Code if I'd been trolling anyone about the severity of Senator's Paul's injuries, or the fact that this Attack was a Federal Offense.

I would think a doctor would be against Bammy care.  Does it somehow help doctors?  It sure doesn't help anyone else.

It would appear (at least from this source) that Senators may not vote 'in abstentia'. They have to be physically present.

There was a long-standing practice in the Senate called 'vote-pairing' where opposing Senators paired up, in that if one member of the pair was physically unable to cast a vote, the other member would abstain from voting in order to cancel out the other non-vote.  It was a Gentleman's agreement that was honored many times over the years, until the Democrats decided to violate it within the last 10 years.
If a political party does not have its foundation in the determination to advance a cause that is right and that is moral, then it is not a political party; it is merely a conspiracy to seize power.

-Dwight Eisenhower-

"The [U.S.] Constitution is a limitation on the government, not on private individuals ... it does not prescribe the conduct of private individuals, only the conduct of the government ... it is not a charter for government power, but a charter of the citizen's protection against the government."

At least the authorities have determined the motive, or what wasn't the motive, of at least one of these crimes. ABC reports that the pain specialist was absolutely, positively NOT motivated by politics.

Well, maybe voting can be delayed?

@libertybele

I heard an update.  The bad guy's attorney said it was not political and he hoped the two men could be friends now.
There was no mention of why the guy did this and evidently Paul isn't talking about it, either.
With the ways things are going in this country, better be glad Paul is still alive, so many are dead now who were alive in the church and in Las Vegas.

I heard that's what the attorney said too.

Fat chance it wasn't political.

About as much chance that the Texas monster's motive wasn't at all religious.

They're trying to ignore the obvious, if you ask me.

According to a piece on Red State, the men had been neighbors for years and for all that time, they had been fighting (legally) over a property line dispute.

I'm thinking some things.

One, it is refreshing that a U.S. Senator was out mowing his own lawn and,

Two, bitterness over minor things like property lines is ridiculous.  I don't think Rand was bitter but I think his neighbor was.

A long while back my son lived at Lake Texoma where he had a boat docked.  He was in a property line dispute with a neighbor who was a real jackass.  He was in the right and wouldn't back off.  One day, he told me the dispute was settled.  When I asked him about it, he said, "I realized the fight was upsetting my wife and it just wasn't worth it."

It's not worth it, people.
